2008 North Carolina High School Scholastic Class Chess Championship
19^th Year of Chess Champions in High School Classes 1A,2A,3A,4A, At Large

• May 10, 2008 at Newton-Conover High School
• All high schools in North Carolina will be invited to participate.  Other states ok as at large teams.  This event is approved by the NCCA clearinghouse and rated by the USCF
• Awards to top scoring students and teams in classes 1A,2A,3A,4A and At Large(For Home School, Private School, or other non-high school class teams and players)
• Registration: Pre-enter via email or regular mail or register at site from 9:00 to 9:30 AM.
• Entry Fee: $15.00: $5 discount if pre-registered; additional $5 discount if traveling more than 50 miles
• Free pizza lunch and drinks at site.  We also will try to provide photos via digital camera.
• US Chess Federation membership is $19 (if 14 or younger) or $25 per year.
• NC Chess Association membership is now not required for scholastic players.
• USCF membership is required and can be renewed or purchased at site. This membership can be purchased on line at www.uschess.org
• Round Times: 10 AM, 11:30 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM.  Rounds may start earlier if possible.
• Time Controls Per Round: Game/45; Game/45; Game/60; Game/75 Bring clock and chess set if you have them.  We have 50 sets and clocks.

• Directions: From I-40: Take exit 128 (Fairgrove Church Rd.) and turn right. Travel ½ mile to Hwy 70 intersection and turn left.  Travel 2 miles and turn right unto Hwy 321.  Travel about 2 miles and turn left at the Eckerd’s Drug Store.  Look for signs to the school.  From Hwy 16: Go to Newton, turn unto to 15^th St. and travel approx ½ mile to Newton-Conover HS. From Gastonia: Go north on Hwy 321 to Hwy 10 Exit. Travel East on Hwy 10 to Newton-Conover (approx. 5 miles). Go North on Hwy 16 to the 15^th St. exit and travel the ½ mile to the school.

1^st Place 3AA: Harnett Central HS; 2^nd Place 3AA: Triton HS;
1^st Place 3A:  Hunter Huss HS; 2^nd Place 3A: TW Andrews HS;
1^st 2AA(Large 2A): Hibriten HS, 2^nd 2AA: West Caldwell HS;
1^st 2A(Small 2A): Newton-Conover HS; 2nd Place 2A HS: Maiden  HS;
1^st Place At Large: Hickory Home School; 2^nd Place At Large: Charlotte Home School; 
1^st Place Overall: Newton-Conover and Hibriten HS (Each had 12 team points).

 Chess has shown by many studies to increase performance in school by students who are involved.  We hope you are able to attend or send a team.  All tournaments are rated by the USCF and approved by the NC Chess Assoc. Clearinghouse.
